Discover the 10 Famous Symbols of Chicago

1 – Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls

The great Michael Jordan no longer plays with Chicago Bulls, where the team won six NBA championships, the professional basketball league of the United States, and even a resident of Chicago, but its impact is still felt in these lands. Millions of tourists pass through attending Chicago United Center, the stadium where they play Chicago Bulls to see the team and for a photo opportunity with the Statue of Jordan.

The former basketball star restaurant, which specializes in steaks, is located on Michigan Avenue in the heart, and is a major attraction.

2 –Lake Michigan

The Lake Michigan is one of the five Great Lakes located between the United States and Canada. For its size, the lake resembles a sea if viewed from Chicago. Its beaches, from the border with the state of Indiana south to Wisconsin, north, fill each summer week with public seeking sunshine, a football match or beach volleyball.

3 –The Blues and jazz

The music of blues is synonymous with Chicago nearly a century ago, when the great migration of African Americans in the southern United States brought this sound to these lands. The blues is now a very interesting and authentic artistic expression that can be enjoyed in several clubs in the city, many of whom maintain a typical environment of other times.

Like the blues, jazz is symbolic of musical art in the city and its sounds can be enjoyed every summer at the Chicago Jazz Festival and dozens of clubs throughout the year.

4 –Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower)

Sears Tower was the tallest building in the world. Today, the place changed its name and is known as Willis Tower, but its importance has not diminished. It is a symbol of Chicago and from its 110 floor, you can view the city, Lake Michigan and neighboring states. Your ‘deck’, a kind of glass balcony hanging over the void, is an invitation for those who venture to cope with heights.

5 –Millennium Park

Millennium Park is the largest park in the city, especially from its most recent renovation and its current modernist image. Located on Michigan Avenue and close to major attractions, this park is part of a must for any tourist visiting Chicago.

6 –Michigan Avenue

The Michigan Avenue is the main artery of the city center attractions, buildings and businesses. From the curve of the Lake Shore Avenue (along the lake) and the famous Drake Hotel to the level of 1000 to the south, on Roosevelt Street, Michigan Avenue is attractive in about 20 blocks showing an incessant movement. Part of the avenue presents The Magnificent Mile, the main commercial center of Chicago, with shopping centers, malls and other businesses that exhibit the best brands in the world.

7 –Chicago Museums

Several of the museums in Chicago are on par with the best in the world and maybe New York is the only city that can match or beat the United States. The Art Institute on Michigan Avenue, The Field Museum, lakeshore, and the Museum of Science and Industry, south of the city, are true artistic Midwest symbols. Shedd Aquarium and Adler Planetarium also on the lake are worth visiting.

8 –Chicago Pizza

The Chicago pizza is thick, fluffy and full of tomato sauce. For visitors to the city, it usually has an unusual but very appealing style. This pizza can be tasted in chain restaurants like Giordano's or Lou Malnatti's or even in several other restaurants in Chicago and its suburbs.

9 –Hancock Center

Located on the Magnificent Mile and Michigan Avenue, the Hancock Tower offers a similar landscape to the Sears Tower, a revolving restaurant that allows a spectacular view of the city and the lake, along with several business and first class restaurants.

10 –Al Capone

Before Michael Jordan became the most famous character of Chicago, the legendary Al Capone was the biggest name in town for the rest of the world. Unlike Jordan, Capone did nothing really commendable back in the decades of the 20s and the 30s in the last century. He just became the most famous US mobster until he was captured by Elliot Ness and his staff. The Mafia tours allow travel on the tracks of Capone and other gangsters of the past century.
